My #1 Tip to Escape the Hustle & Accomplish Even More

What’s the one simple skill I learned to escape the hustle, increase productivity and accomplish more?

Learning to rest.

I think in the entrepreneur world, there’s not enough emphasis on rest, relaxation and recharging.

If you’re in this industry long enough, you see a lot of people burn out. Everyone experiences burnout at some point, because we’re told, “Work, grind, hustle, sacrifice”…

But we aren’t running a race; we’re running a marathon. We’re planting seeds, and watering them, and growing mangroves — and it takes time.

So what I’ve done, especially in the last couple years, is really put a strong emphasis on balance.

If I’m pushing hard in my business, I’m also making sure that I am resting, relaxing, and eating well; that I’m moving my body, and leaving time for stillness.

And this has made me more productive. It actually works toward accomplishing my goal even though it seems like it’s working against it.

But I think that a lot of people aren’t putting value on rest even though it’s very much in the direction of their ultimate goal of more productivity.

So make sure that you’re taking care of yourself and rebuilding the energy you’re giving to your business.

You can only give from surplus.

That is just a description. It’s not even a viewpoint that I hold; it’s just a description of the way things are.

If you give from something that isn’t surplus, you end up resenting the person you gave it to and feeling badly about it.

So, it’s your responsibility as a human being to generate surplus — not just surplus of money, but surplus of energy. And you create surplus with things like yoga, meditation and taking care of yourself.

So the nicest thing you can do for anyone is to take care of yourself first.

Because if you’re well taken care of you’re likely a happier person, so you do better in your business and you create more surplus in the direction of money.

And then you have more money to use to employ more people, create better products, do cool things in the world you find noble… But, it all starts with taking care of yourself.

Think in the entrepreneur world, there’s just not enough emphasis put on rest, relaxation, recharge, routine, rootedness. And if you’re in this industry long enough, you see a lot of people burn out. Everyone experiences it at some point because you’re told, “Work, grind, hustle, sacrifice.” And, like, actually, we are running a marathon. Actually, we are planting seeds, and watering them, and growing mango groves, and that takes a long time.

And what I’ve done, especially in the last couple years, is really put a very strong emphasis on having the same amount, like polar opposite, you got to be pulling from somewhere. So, if I’m pushing, I’m also making sure that I am resting, and relaxing, and eating well, and moving my body, and having time for stillness. And, like, I found that it actually makes me more productive. So, it actually works towards my goal even though it seems like it’s against my goal. And I think that a lot of people don’t take care of themselves in that way. They’re not putting value on rest, when actually, it’s very much in the direction of your ultimate goal of more productivity, is making sure that you’re like taking care of yourself and rebuilding that energy.

You can only give from surplus. That is just a description. That is not even a viewpoint that I hold. It’s just a description of the way things are. If you give from something that isn’t surplus, you end up resenting the person you gave it to, feeling badly about it. So, it is your responsibility as a person to generate surplus, not just surplus of money, but surplus of energy, which things like yoga, and meditation, and taking care of yourself create.

So, look at it as, like, the nicest thing you can do for anyone is to take care of yourself. And then, if you’re a happy person and you’re well taken care of, you do better in your business, therefore, you create more surplus in the direction of money. And then, you have that money to use to employ more people, to create better products, to do cool things in the world, do whatever you want, whatever you find noble, whatever you think is a cool thing to do with this surplus that you’ve generated. But, it starts with taking care of yourself.
